Activity report

What does Activity report?

Report of the supervisory authorities

One of the tasks of the supervisory authorities is to regularly provide information about their activities in so-called activity reports and thus to provide an overall Transparency with regard to their activities. Each state data protection supervisory authority makes its activity reports available free of charge on its respective website. The Data Protection Foundation, on the other hand, has a central Archive for activity reports of the federal and state data protection commissioners and the data protection supervisory authorities (ZafTDa for short), which can be used free of charge and can even be searched using a full-text search. All reports published since 1971 are available there. It also contains the activity reports of the European Data Protection Supervisor, the EDPB and the Art. 29 Group.

Report of the Data Protection Officer

Data protection officers can also prepare regular reports on their activities, but are not subject to any legal obligation to do so. Ultimately, it is a matter of agreement between the data protection officer and the controller as to whether, in what form and how often a Activity report must be prepared. Useful contents of an activity report would be, for example, a report on the actual or target status of the implementation of data protection requirements, information on any data protection mishaps, information on data protection impact assessments carried out, confirmation of employee training, naming of targets for the coming year, etc.
