Pseudonymization

What does Pseudonymization?

Pseudonymization is the Processing personal data in such a manner that the personal data can no longer be attributed to a specific data subject without the use of additional information, provided that such additional information is kept separately and is subject to TOMs which ensure that the personal data are not attributed to an identified or identifiable natural person (Art. 4 no. 5 GDPR). The application of the Pseudonymization on personal data can reduce the risks for data subjects and support controllers and processors in complying with their data protection obligations; however, data protection law must continue to apply to pseudonymous data (Recital 28 GDPR).

Practical example

For statistical evaluations personal data anonymized in such a way that they can no longer be assigned to a specific person.
