JI Directive

What does JI Directive?

Directive (EU) 2016/680 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27.4.2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data Processing personal data by the competent authorities for the purposes of the prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offenses. Criminal offenses or the execution of sentences and on the free movement of data, and repealing Council Framework Decision 2008/977/JHA (so-called JI Directive) sets out minimum standards that all EU member states must comply with in their national legislation. However, stricter requirements may also be laid down in national laws. In Germany, the requirements of the JI Directive implemented in Part 3 of the BDSG (Sections 45 to 84). The JI Directive forms together with the GDPR the common legal framework for data protection in the EU.
