Equivalent intelligence
What does equivalent intelligence mean?
Equivalent intelligence describes the state in which an artificial or technical system consistently achieves equivalent or better results than a human in a clearly defined task area.
The term describes intelligence not philosophically or biologically, but functionally and comparatively. The decisive factor is therefore not whether a system „thinks like a human“, but whether it reaches or surpasses a human level in terms of practical performance.
Practical example
Equivalent intelligence is a relevant term for AI governance because, from this threshold onwards, it is no longer just a software tool that is being controlled, but a system that partially replaces, prepares for or surpasses human judgment and decision-making.
