The second meeting of the IAPP KnowledgeNet Chapter Rhine-Ruhr was organized by 2B Advice in Bonn. KnowledgeNet Chapters are regional network meetings of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the worldwide professional association of data protection experts. KnowledgeNet Chapters offer keynote speeches, opportunities for discussion and the exchange of experience.

The central theme of the meeting was the recent decision of the European Court of Justice on the question of whether dynamic IP addresses fall under the concept of personal data. As the decision deals with the most central concept of data protection, personal data, the practical implications of this case law are considerable.

  • Is it even possible to prevent a personal reference according to case law?
  • How intensively must data protection officers examine the legal possibilities for revealing an identity in this context?
  • What are the risks?

We were able to attract Dr. Claus Ulmer, Group Data Protection Officer of Deutsche Telekom AG, as an expert speaker. Ulrike Merger from the data protection supervisory authority of North Rhine-Westphalia was also present. She was available to answer questions during the discussion.

The event took place on 07.03.2017, from 16:30 to approx. 18:00, in the:

Kameha Grand
Am Bonner Bogen 1
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301

Participation was free of charge and membership of the IAPP was not required.

For the subsequent networking, snacks and drinks were available on the premises of 2B Advice GmbH. The participants reached these after a short walk (200 meters) along the Rhine.
